Why are religious beliefs such a big deal?

I don't understand why believing or not believing in God is such a big deal.

Why would one's beliefs ever be controversial? They are one persons business and theirs alone just like their sexuality.

I believe in God, but if you don't I'm cool with that and I wont try to change you just know that I'm here if you have any questions about my faith.
